Monastery of St. Nicholas

This historic monastery is located by the sea. Its tall bell tower, built from Tinian marble in 1805, can be seen from a distance. The monastery was the meeting point of captains and priests of the island when they had to take decisions concerning the revolutionary struggle in 1821. In the monastery you can also visit the "House of Spetses", a special area that has been turned into a representation of a traditional residence of Spetses.

Pine Forest of Spetses

At the beginning of the last century the island's benefactor Sotirios Anargyros bought a large area and re-created there the pine forest of Spetses which was in risk of disappearing due to uncontrolled logging and farming. Pine trees along with Greek herbs and flowers are what you will encounter on every tour of the island. In the past, Spetses suffered from fires but vegetation always managed to survive and thus, became a paradise for the lovers of nature.
